Introduction
The outline of this course is to teach the student the fundamental theory behind audio and recording engineering, through the course of 6 units.
The units will go as followed.
Unit 1. What is sound.
In this unit students will learn what sound is, and different ways we measure sound.
Unit 2. Signal chain part one, Microphones, DIs and cables.
In this unit students will learn about the start of a analog signal chain, the microphone or di, different types of each and the cables used to connect these.
Unit 3. Signal chain part two, preamps, interfaces, converters, and output
In this unit students will learn the difference between analog and digital audio. As well as what a digital audio workstation is. What an interface is, how converters and preamps work, and more.
Unit 4. Equalization
In this unit students will learn about equalization, types of eq, their controls and how it is used to shape the tones in an audio recording.
Unit 5. Compression.
In this unit students will learn about dynamic range, the basics of compression, types of compressors, what they do and how they are used.
Unit 6. Reverb, delay and other effects.
In this unit students will learn about time related effects such as reverb delay and chorus’s. How they work and common controls found on them.
