LGBTQ2S+ Unit 3 – Biological Sex

Unit description:

This unit focuses on biological sex. We discuss how our current understanding of biological sex is imprecise, and results in harm faced by the intersex community. We analyze the ways biological sex is more than the XX and XY chromosomes, and we learn from the experiences of an intersex activist.

By the end of this unit, you will be able to:

  • identify the ways chromosomes are not the only biological element in charge of sex
  • understand the seven different categories of biological sex characteristics and their variance
  • listen to the lived experience of an intersex activist, and bring their knowledge into your future conversations
