Unit description:

This unit addresses the concept of binary societal systems, and their implied connotations associated with the either/or options. We will discuss the ways we can move away from an either/or situation towards a both/and, to include all those who exist outside the binary. We will learn how we have been taught to 'do' gender throughout the various stages of our lives.

By the end of this unit, you will be able to:

• understand the connotations associated with binary systems 
• analyze what it means for gender to be socially construction
• identify ways gender is taught to us throughout various stages of development
